Active Learning: Kit- and Web-Based Teaching
Teen Take Heart incorporates an impactful, sustainable, and measurable supplemental curriculum that addresses the urgent need in our communities for health heart promotion and disease prevention. The curriculum is an interactive, hands-on, web- and kit-based approach delivered by educators who have gone through training for delivery of the curriculum.
Each of the four Teen Take Heart modules has a dedicated βkitβ of materials. The four modules are further broken down into a total of 18 lessons. Each module and corresponding kit was designed using the latest evidence-based information.
The lessons demonstrate how the Science and Engineering Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Disciplinary Core ideas of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) can be integrated. Structure and Function are tied to homeostasis of the cardiac system while students ask questions and generate arguments about their health.
Students have opportunities to understand, apply, analyze, experiment, and plan & design throughout the integrative curriculum. Connections with anatomy, physiology, biotechnology, human body systems and how these components interact with the environment. Students learn to apply concepts with parents & community by creating and implementing culturally relevant community outreach events.
